“Basant Issue” 2009 - Volume 1, Number 1

Dear friends

I have always loved the spring. The grass looks so green, flowers are on the verge of blooming and there is celebration of new life everywhere. It is so appropriate therefore to bring out the inaugural issue of the NOSI newsletter this time of the year and hope this will be the beginning of many productive and fruitful endeavours in future.

As some of you are aware, the NeuroOncology Society of India (NOSI) was launched on February 29th, 2008 in Mumbai with a view to promote and advance the scientific knowledge and research in tumours arising from the nervous system. We all know that management of these tumours involves a truly multidisciplinary approach and NOSI would hopefully serve as an appropriate forum for all interested members to share, learn and further our understanding of these tumours so as to help our patients (the ultimate beneficiary) even better, especially in our set up. The genesis and evolution of the society is elaborated in the ‘Secretary speaks’ column.

The most important immediate agenda is of course the inaugural annual conference of NOSI, which will be held in Delhi from April 3rd to 5th, 2009. Details of the conference can be found on the conference website www.nosicon09.com. I would request you all to kindly make it possible to attend the conference and also spread the message across to all your colleagues, resident staff and all those who you think would be interested. Dr AK Singh, Chief of Neurosciences, Fortis Hospital and Vice-President NOSI and his team are working hard to organise a superb conference and have managed to rope in very eminent national and international faculty for the same. It would be a conference well worth attending.

Dr K Sridhar, our webmaster of NOSI, has worked hard to put up the NOSI website (www.nosi.in) . A lot of exciting features will be put up on the website soon. We would welcome your suggestions for the website and would be happy to incorporate them. May I also request you to become the members of the society; a copy of the membership form is enclosed and can be also downloaded from the NOSI website as well. You will also find a detailed ‘Members’ directory on the website.

I have included a list of important national and international conferences related to neurooncology as well as a list of useful website in this inaugural issue. There are going to be some more useful and interesting columns in the subsequent issues.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the NOSICON09 in April.

Happy reading!!
